The Escalante City Council will host a public hearing on Nov. 17, 2026, to discuss the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, according to a notice published Nov. 4.
The meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at 65 North Center in Escalante, Utah.
The purpose of this first public hearing is to provide citizens with information regarding the CDBG program and to allow for discussion of possible projects. The session will cover expected funding allocations in the region, program requirements, and eligible activities.
Escalante City is eligible to apply for funding through the CDBG Small Cities Program. This is a federally funded program that is administered by the State of Utah, Division of Housing and Community Development (HCD). Eligibility for the funding is contingent upon the city meeting all applicable program requirements.
The CDBG Program can fund a variety of activities. These include the construction of public facilities and works, such as sewer and water lines or fire stations, the acquisition of real property, and the provision of public services like homeless shelters or food banks.
If Escalante City decides to proceed with a CDBG funding application, a second public hearing will be held at a later time to discuss specific projects.
The hearing is being held in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Individuals requiring special accommodations, including auxiliary communicative aids and services, should notify Stephanie Steed at 65 North Center Street, Escalante Utah 84726 at least three days prior to the hearing.
Individuals with speech or hearing impairments may use Relay Utah by dialing 711, or Spanish Relay Utah at 1.888.346.3162.
The meeting will be accessible via Zoom. The meeting ID is 952 988 2858 with passcode 512701.
