The BYU football team returned to the field on Wednesday morning for the first official practice of the 2026 fall camp. The Cougars are beginning a four-week training period ahead of their season opener against Utah Tech at LaVell Edwards Stadium on September 5.
During the first session, players participated in drills wearing jerseys and helmets. The team is scheduled to transition to full pads during the second week of camp.
Head coach Kalani Sitake noted that the team appears further ahead than they were the previous year. He stated that the hard work during the summer has paid off and that the new players have integrated so well they no longer seem new.
Sitake also highlighted the continuity and momentum seen across all three phases of the team. He specifically praised special teams player Justin Ena and noted a successful transition for the defense under K-Pop.
Following the practice session, Sitake addressed the media alongside running back LJ Martin and linebacker Isaiah Glasker. The head coach expressed that his favorite part of his role is helping the players and representing Cougar Nation.
