The State Department is introducing a limited-edition commemorative U.S. passport to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. Starting July 6, 2026, the special edition document will be available for issuance at the Washington Passport Agency in Washington, D.C., while supplies last.
Passport Design and Security
The commemorative passport includes custom artwork and enhanced images on the front, back, and inside covers. Despite the unique design, it retains all advanced security features found in standard U.S. passports.
Eligibility and Application Restrictions
Applicants will not receive this commemorative version if they apply online, mail in an application, or apply at a U.S. embassy or consulate abroad. Additionally, those applying in person during normal hours at any passport agency other than the Washington Passport Agency in Washington, D.C., are ineligible for the special edition.
Expedited Travel Procedures
For those with international travel planned within 14 days, an in-person appointment can be made at the Washington Passport Agency starting July 6, 2026. Such applicants must use the Online Passport Appointment System and pay a $60 expedite fee along with any other required application fees.
Special Application Event Schedule
The State Department has also designated special passport application acceptance events specifically for this commemorative passport. Two such events are scheduled at the Washington Passport Agency:
Saturday, August 22, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Saturday, September 26, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Appointment Booking and Fees
Appointments for these events are limited and will be released two weeks before each scheduled date. Applicants can schedule appointments by dialing 1-877-487-2778. When applying at these specific events, regular fees and processing times apply, and the commemorative passport will be mailed to the applicant.
Required Forms and Costs
Applications for the commemorative passport utilize the established DS-82 or DS-11 forms depending on individual eligibility. All applications are subject to the State Department's established schedule of passport fees.
