Three children and two adults were rescued from a three-alarm fire overnight in West Valley City, according to a report published October 11. The fire destroyed one home and caused heavy damage to a neighboring residence.
The West Valley City Fire Department stated that crews were dispatched at 1:38 a.m. to a home near 4671 W. Trinity Ave. Upon arrival, firefighters found a home fully engulfed in flames with five people trapped in the basement.
Firefighters rescued three children through a small basement window and two adults via the stairs. A third adult escaped the flames on their own. All six individuals were transported to hospitals for smoke inhalation; the fire department described their initial condition as alpha, indicating possible minor injuries.
The fire destroyed the home, an attached carport, and two vehicles. A neighboring home also caught fire and is expected to be declared a total loss.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Multiple agencies assisted in the firefighting efforts, including Unified Fire, West Jordan Fire, Murray City Fire, and Salt Lake City Fire.
