A Logan City project to install removable traffic control bollards at the east and west ends of Center Street, between Main Street and 100 West, is scheduled to begin May 26. The work is expected to continue through the first week of July.
Purpose of new bollards
The new bollards are intended to allow the city to create a safe, walkable zone for special events on Center Street without needing to use police, fire, or other city vehicles to block traffic. Mayor Mark Anderson stated that the project is part of an ongoing effort to make downtown a gathering place and will ensure events remain safe while contributing to an outdoor atmosphere. He added that the bollards allow city vehicles to remain available for other needs.
Construction phases and traffic access
Construction will be completed in three phases to keep the core downtown block open for business. Both lanes of the block will remain open throughout the duration of the project. Mayor Anderson noted that the plan was designed so residents can still access local shops and restaurants, though he requested that people use extra caution and drive slowly in the area.
Parking availability during construction
Parking will be permitted on both sides of Center Street during construction, although some spots may be blocked off for contractor equipment during different phases.
