Tyler Robinson will return to Provo’s 4th District Court on Friday, October 23, 2026, for a hearing where Judge Tony F. Graf said he will set a trial date. In preparation for the hearing, state prosecutors and the defense each submitted memorandums Wednesday to propose when the trial should take place, according to a report published October 22, 2026.
Robinson proposed a trial lasting six to seven months in 2029. Conversely, the state suggested an 85-day trial beginning Jan. 31, 2028. While county prosecutors said the state could be ready to start trial on Oct. 4, 2027, they suggested delaying the start until after the holiday season to avoid placing hardship on jurors.
The defense argued that 2027 and 2028 would be spent litigating various pretrial motions. Additionally, a memorandum from Robinson’s defense noted that multiple members of the defense team have scheduled trials in 2027.
Graf found probable cause on Sept. 1, 2026, finding that Robinson shot and killed Charlie Kirk on Sept. 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University in Orem. Robinson was ordered to stand trial for seven counts, including aggravated murder.
Judge Tony F. Graf is expected to consider the proposed dates during the hearing scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2026.
