Nikita Kucherov became the Tampa Bay Lightning's all-time leading scorer on Saturday, recording the 1,138th point of his career. The achievement occurred with a primary assist on a first-period goal by Brayden Point during a game against the Utah Mammoth.
Kucherov surpassed former teammate Steven Stamkos to claim the franchise scoring crown. While Stamkos previously held the record over 1,082 games, Kucherov reached the milestone in just 890 games.
Brayden Point stated that Kucherov is deserving of the record due to his work ethic and leadership. Lightning coach Jon Cooper noted that Kucherov is a special talent who has provided the franchise with a decade of high-level performances.
The 33-year-old right winger has achieved several professional milestones, including winning two Hart Memorial Trophies and two Ted Lindsay Awards. His career also includes three NHL scoring titles and back-to-back Stanley Cup championships.
Kucherov is currently one of the NHL's most prolific passers and is working toward a fifth consecutive 100-point season. In the 2025-26 season, he tied a career high by scoring 44 goals and established new career marks for points and even-strength goals.
Kucherov's career began in 2013, when he scored his first NHL goal in his first career shift while wearing number 56. He has since accumulated nearly 20 franchise records.
According to coach Jon Cooper, Kucherov is a quiet individual off the ice who gives everything he has during gameplay. Lightning captain Victor Hedman added that Kucherov's dedication to perfection and his ability to see the game make him a unique talent to watch.
The Lightning's loss to the Mammoth occurred in overtime on Saturday. Kucherov's career point total continues to climb as he approaches the NHL's top 50 in career scoring.
