Seth Sperry Chappell, a resident of Lyman, Utah, passed away peacefully at his home on September 1, 2026, according to a report published September 3. Chappell, who was 92 years old, died following a battle with colon cancer and was surrounded by his family.
Born on May 29, 1934, to Alvin Sperry Chappell and Lydia Okerlund Chappell, Seth Chappell was a veteran who served in the United States Army. He was also active in the American Legion.
Chappell attended Wayne High School, Snow College, and Utah State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree. He also served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Texas-Louisiana Mission.
He was married to Ardeen Davenport on August 28, 1958, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they worked as a teacher and a farmer, with Chappell enjoying raising sheep.
Funeral services are scheduled for September 12, 2026, at the Lyman LDS Ward Chapel, with a viewing held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A burial with military honors will take place in the Lyman Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Ardeen; his children, Roger Chappell, Pam Perry, Lori Syme, and Scott Chappell; and his brother, Rulon Chappell.
