The Manti-La Sal National Forest is seeking public input on a proposal to change fees at various developed recreation sites across the forest. The proposal impacts 35 campgrounds and rental cabins, which represents approximately 19% of the roughly 180 developed recreation sites in the area.
Implementation Timeline and Fee-Free Days
If implemented, these proposed fee changes would not take effect until 2027. The Forest Service stated that the forest will continue to participate in annual fee-free days.
Public Comment Period Details
A 60-day public comment period is currently underway, running from June 15, 2026, through August 15, 2026. During this window, the Forest Service will collect and review feedback from the public regarding the recreation fee changes.
Review Process and Final Decision
Following the public involvement phase, a citizen's advisory committee will review the proposed changes. The committee includes members representing various recreation interest groups to assist in proposing reasonable and publicly acceptable fees. This committee will then submit a recommendation to the Regional Forester for a final decision.
