From summer reading challenges in Saratoga Springs and Highland to upcoming fraud prevention workshops in Vernal, Utah communities are transitioning into June with a mix of educational programming and public safety initiatives.
Saratoga Springs Summer Reading Programs
The Saratoga Springs Public Library has launched its 2026 Summer Reading Challenge, featuring age-group reading challenges and weekly activities such as family story times and music sessions. According to the City of Saratoga Springs, registration for these programs requires a library card number and PIN. The library is also hosting its fifth annual rubber duck-orating contest, with registration opening June 2 and running until June 13 or until all ducks are claimed.
Highland Elementary Literacy and Awards
Highland Elementary is also encouraging summer literacy through its Summer Reading Challenge, which invites students to share photos of their favorite books for a chance to be featured on the school marquee. Additionally, Highland Elementary recently recognized Mrs. Lane as the 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year and Ms. Jennye as the Employee of the Year.
Duchesne County Librarian Awarded
In Duchesne County, Amy Crockett, an Associate Librarian for the Duchesne County Library System, was honored with the Outreach Award at the 2026 Utah Library Association conference. As BasinNow reported, Crockett manages three outreach programs and conducts weekly homeschool hours while serving the community.
Vernal Fraud Prevention Workshop
The Vernal Police Department is promoting an upcoming FBI fraud presentation scheduled for Monday, June 15, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Vernal City Conference Room. According to a department announcement, the session aims to educate the community, particularly older adults, on increasingly sophisticated scams and how to report cyber attacks via IC3.gov.
