Utah Military Academy released a newsletter providing updates on school policies, including attendance expectations and upcoming student elections. The school also highlighted various extracurricular activities and community service initiatives.
The school outlined strict attendance requirements, noting that Utah is a compulsory education state with a school-wide goal of 95% attendance. Cadets who miss more than five days in a school year without communication may be reported as truant. To manage absences, the school uses a system called MyAttendance, which notifies parents via text or email. Additionally, students who accumulate excessive tardies or absences may face a No Credit (NC) grade in their classes. To resolve these issues, students may attend Attendance School, which is being piloted at Hill Field and Camp Williams.
An election for the School Land Trust Council is scheduled for September 23 through September 25, 2026. The candidates for the five available parent/guardian positions are Melissa Shoemaker, Jessica Quarnberg, Jason Barrett, Brenden Borroman, Synthia “Syd” Padala, Christopher Degn, Sara Kendrick, and Jackeline Ramirez. Voting will be conducted electronically via Google Docs.
The academy is also seeking three parent volunteers to serve on the Health and Sex Education Curriculum Materials Review Committee. This committee meets once per year to ensure instructional materials align with Utah State Board of Education guidelines. Additionally, the National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society are conducting a cereal drive, aiming to collect 100 boxes of cereal for a local food bank by October 20th.
Upcoming athletic events include a football game on September 18 and various cross country, volleyball, and soccer matches scheduled through late September. The school also reminded families of the student check-out procedures, which require an adult to present a photo ID and sign the student out at the front desk.
