Lehi skateboarder Greg Williams has officially achieved professional status after signing a contract with a major national board sponsor, according to a report published October 16. This milestone cements his place in the competitive skateboarding world and transitions him from a regional competitor to a paid ambassador for the sport.
The path to professional status involved significant physical challenges for Williams. He recently experienced a severe fall that resulted in a fractured chin and two fractured teeth, requiring surgery and several weeks of recovery. Williams noted that while the physical recovery is difficult, staying motivated is easier because of his passion for skating.
Williams credited his development to the Lehi community and its skateparks, describing the Lehi skatepark as one of the best. He noted that visiting the local skatepark and seeing bowl and vert skating for the first time was a pivotal moment in his career. He also highlighted the influence of Geoff Geertsen and Geertsen Clothing, which served as one of his first sponsors and provided him with a signature line.
Reaching the professional ranks required significant sacrifices from Williams and his family. His family spent years traveling to skateparks and planning their lives around his training schedule. Williams expressed gratitude for his father, who has spent a significant amount of time filming him over the years.
Looking forward, Williams aims to continue improving, film a new video part, and eventually compete in the X Games. He also expressed a desire to support the local Lehi skate community by helping the scene grow and being welcoming to the next generation of skaters.
