The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Utah State Office has initiated a 30-day public scoping period for the BLM Utah 2026 Fourth Quarter Competitive Oil and Gas Lease Sale Environmental Assessment. The process, which began June 15, 2026, allows the public to review and comment on the proposed action involving forty-four nominated parcels.
Public comment period details
The scoping period is scheduled to end on July 16, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. MT. To participate, individuals must submit comments electronically through the BLM Land Use Planning and NEPA Register (ePlanning) by clicking the Participate Now button. The BLM stated that any scoping comments received via other methods will not be accepted.
Requirements for submitting attachments
For those submitting exhibits or attachments with their comments, the BLM requires a summary of the attached documents and an explanation of why they are important for consideration. Failure to provide this summary may result in the BLM not considering the information during its decision-making process.
Guidelines for effective comments
The BLM noted that the most useful comments identify issues relevant to the proposed action or provide new technical or scientific information. While comments containing only opinions or preferences may be considered, they will not be specifically addressed in environmental documents.
Privacy and public record notice
Participants are advised that any personal identifying information included in comments, such as addresses, phone numbers, or email addresses, may become part of the public record. Although individuals can request that personal information be withheld from public review, the BLM cannot guarantee this outcome.
