Salt Lake City businesses are hosting a variety of seasonal events designed to bring the community together through classes, readings, and celebrations, according to a October 15 report by City Cast Salt Lake. These activities range from family-friendly autumn traditions to adult-oriented themed parties.
For families, the Salt Lake Book Festival will take place on Saturday, Oct. 17, at The Gateway. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will feature author conversations, panels, signings, and local vendors. While general admission is free, select events require tickets, and the festival will include a dedicated kids' stage with storytimes.
Other family-oriented activities include visits to The Kinlands pumpkin patch, which offers $2 wagon rides seven days a week alongside free access to swings, a bean pool, and slides. Additionally, the Nightmare on 13th haunted house is offering a new Day Haunt experience for older children or adults, providing the same decor and lighting as the main attraction without jump scares.
Adults can attend several themed events, including a rooftop party at the Salt Lake City Public Library on Friday night as part of the Prologue kickoff, which features an adult spelling bee, drinks, and dancing.
Other local options include a Halloween pop-up at Studio at Soundwell hosted by Something Wicked, which features vintage horror decor, themed bites, cocktails, DJs, tarot, and weekly scary-oke. Additionally, Crone’s Hollow will host BYOC Comedy (Bring Your Own Cauldron), a free show featuring local comedians and magical mischief, though a donation is suggested for the performers.
Small businesses often use seasonal celebrations and events to turn strangers into regulars and build community connections, according to the report.
