The Ogden City Council initiated the process to fill a vacancy on the council created by the resignation of Council Member Shaun Myers, who held At Large Seat C.
In accordance with Utah law, the Council intended to appoint a qualified individual to serve on the Council.
Interested individuals were required to submit an application, a letter of interest, a resume, a conflict of interest disclosure form, and a campaign finance disclosure report to the City Recorder's Office.
Applications were due by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. The council scheduled interviews and an appointment for July 21, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
To be eligible for the appointment, applicants had to be registered voters who lived in Ogden City for at least 12 consecutive months. Additionally, candidates could not have been declared mentally incompetent or convicted of a felony, treason, or a crime against the elective franchise, unless their right to hold elective office was restored.
The vacancy process follows state law, which requires the Council to appoint a replacement within 30 days of receiving a resignation. This process includes providing public notice, accepting names from interested individuals, and conducting interviews in an open meeting.
