West Nile virus has been detected in traps in several Utah locations during the 2026 season.
The detection occurred in Syracuse, West Bountiful, Sunset, Woods Cross, Centerville, North Salt Lake, and other areas. Officials said residents should protect themselves by using insect repellent according to label directions, emptying water-holding containers in yards, changing water in bird baths and horse troughs weekly, wearing long-sleeved, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing, and avoiding prolonged outdoor activity at dawn and dusk.
The Davis Mosquito Abatement District issued the warning.
