Kindergarten Shadow Show- A Sage Creek Tradition

Sage Creek Elementary

October 30, 2026

One of our favorite Sage Creek traditions happened this week — the Kindergarten Shadow Show! Our littlest Dragons spent weeks learning Halloween songs, designing and creating their very own shadow puppets, and then taking the stage to perform for both the school and their families. The lights dimmed, the shadows danced, and the smiles were HUGE! But this wasn't just a cute performance — it was real learning in action! Through the Shadow Show, our kindergarteners met Utah Core standards in drama, music, and visual arts: Drama – Students developed imagination to create artistic ideas (K.T.CR.1), created characters through movement, gesture, and expression (K.T.CR.5), and shared their dramatic work with invited guests (K.T.P.9). Music – They sang songs in tune, performed with steady beat and expression, and demonstrated practice and performance behavior for a real audience (K.M.P.3–4).

Visual Arts – Designing their shadow puppets gave students the chance to explore art materials and create artwork that tells a story (K.V.CR.1–2).

And of course, they built audience skills by observing attentively and responding appropriately (K.T.R.1) — something our students did beautifully as they cheered on their classmates!

Thank you to our amazing kindergarten teachers and to all the families who came to watch. Traditions like this are what make Sage Creek such a special place to learn and grow.
