Settlement Canyon Elementary held a Title I Parent/Guardian Advisory Committee Meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, in the school library. The meeting was intended for parents and guardians to review and provide feedback on the school's Parent/Guardian Family Engagement Policy, Title I Compact, and Title I School Improvement Plan.
The meeting was part of the school's efforts to engage stakeholders in reviewing data and setting school goals. According to information from the school, Title I, Part A is a federal education program under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965. The program provides Utah with annual federal funds to assist higher poverty schools in providing supplemental educational services to meet the needs of disadvantaged students.
Goals of the Title I program include helping students achieve proficiency and growth in Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. The program also aims to provide a well-rounded education, build teacher capacity through professional learning, and engage parents in meaningful, evidence-based activities to help close achievement gaps.
Under federal law, parents of students at a Title I school in the Tooele School District have the right to know the professional qualifications of classroom teachers and the services provided by paraprofessionals. This includes information regarding whether a teacher meets state qualification and licensing criteria for their specific grade levels and subject areas, and whether they are teaching under emergency or provisional status.
The Settlement Canyon Parent Family Compact was developed jointly by parents, teachers, and administrators. This compact outlines shared responsibilities for high student academic achievement among students, parents, teachers, and the school.
