Montana-based artist Miles Glynn will debut his solo exhibition, "Ride West," at Gallery MAR starting October 23rd, according to a October 21st statement. The upcoming exhibition invites collectors to reconsider traditional Western icons through a contemporary lens.
Glynn's work utilizes a mixed-media practice that incorporates painting, collage, silkscreen, and tactile elements such as neon lighting. In "Ride West," the artist has introduced fresh color combinations, including pink and aqua hues. His compositions often feature cowboys, cowgirls, horses, and rodeo riders emerging from layered surfaces that blend vintage-inspired imagery with graphic elements and expressive marks.
The exhibition explores various interpretations of the word "riding," ranging from traditional horseback riding and rodeo imagery to unexpected themes like motorcycles and the concept of "riding our luck." Glynn aims to bring Western themes back to life by injecting them into a modern conversation and contemporary context. The artist noted that he avoids creating work that can only be interpreted one way, preferring to welcome the conversations that emerge from viewer associations.
Glynn currently lives and works in Butte, Montana, a historic mining town. His artistic perspective has been shaped by living in the mountain west for many years and spending two years in Marfa, Texas. He draws inspiration from everyday details such as weathered architecture, exposed rebar, or deteriorating billboards, seeking out objects that possess a patina and a story to tell.
Collectors can view the "Ride West" exhibition beginning October 23rd at Gallery MAR.
