A strong storm system is expected to bring widespread rain to the Alpine, Highland, Cedar Hills, and Lehi areas between Sunday, Nov. 1 and Monday, Nov. 2, according to a report published Oct. 30.
The National Weather Service Salt Lake City stated in an Oct. 30 forecast discussion that an atmospheric river will interact with a strong cold front, producing valley rain and mountain snow across the region.
Snow levels are forecast to start between 8,000 and 9,000 feet and could drop as low as 6,500 feet by Monday morning. Because Alpine sits at roughly 5,000 feet and Lehi is at about 4,600 feet, valley areas are expected to see rain rather than snow.
In Lehi, the forecast calls for rain likely Saturday night, rain on Sunday with a high of 52F and a low of 39F, and a chance of rain on Monday with a high of 50F. Alpine is expected to see rain on Sunday with a high of 52F and showers Sunday night with a low of 37F, followed by rain likely on Monday with a high of 50F. Patchy frost may be possible in Alpine by Tuesday morning.
The National Weather Service Salt Lake City noted that flows across the region remain high from recent rain events, which increases the flash flood threat. The agency's hydrology section described near-record-high surface soil moisture values for this time of year.
While the heightened flash flooding potential is focused on southern Utah, as of Oct. 30, no flash flood watch or warning was active for Utah County. The NWS rated Sunday's impact level as moderate and Monday's as minor, noting that valley precipitation should end Monday morning as strong high pressure builds.
Temperatures could run up to 10 degrees below seasonal normals through midweek following the storm system.
