Intermountain Health introduced Connect Care Physical Therapy as a way to address physical ailments when rest and ice are insufficient. The service allows individuals to consult with board-certified physical therapists via secure video to manage issues such as lingering pain, limited range of motion, and recent or recurring injuries.
Signs you need physical therapy
Several indicators suggest that professional physical therapy may be necessary. These include pain that persists for one to two weeks after onset, joint instability or weakness, and difficulty performing everyday tasks like climbing stairs or sleeping. Additionally, changes in posture or balance and stiffness that limits movement are key signs that a therapist can help address through customized care plans.
How virtual visits work
The virtual visit process involves meeting with a provider over video using a phone or computer. During these sessions, therapists assess symptoms, health history, and mobility through simple movements to develop home-based exercise plans. If the professional determines that in-person care is required, they provide referrals to appropriate follow-up services.
Service goals and cost benefits
Tim Lovell, director of operations for Intermountain Connect Care, stated that the service focuses on providing high-quality, low-cost, and convenient care. He noted that many Select Health members can access these visits at no cost.
Accessing care and covered conditions
The service is designed to be accessible via the Intermountain Health App during weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each visit costs $79 for those without specific coverage. The program aims to assist with various conditions, including back and neck pain, ankle sprains, sports injuries, and muscle soreness.
