Luc de Fougerolles has been named to the MLSsoccer.com Matchday 30 Best XI, according to a report published October 15. The Real Salt Lake newcomer earned the honor following his first MLS start and home debut on Wednesday in Herriman, Utah.
The 21-year-old Fulham loanee, described as a Canadian World Cup defender, was selected for the Best XI after a performance characterized by relentless defending and confident ball movement. During the match, de Fougerolles narrowly missed an opening goal in the 11th minute when a volley for attacker Saba Lobanidze struck the outside of the post.
In the 79th minute, de Fougerolles scored what appeared to be a game-winning goal by firing a shot from the right side of the box into the net after striking the inside of the post. However, the scoring player suffered a lower leg injury during the play, which forced him to leave the match early. Real Salt Lake eventually conceded an equalizer in the 95+ minute, resulting in one point from the match.
De Fougerolles' selection comes following a 45-minute performance off the bench the previous Saturday in Philadelphia. Real Salt Lake is entering the final five matches of the 2026 MLS regular season. The team likely requires four wins in those remaining matches to maintain an active five-year postseason qualification streak.
Real Salt Lake is scheduled to travel to Sporting Park in Kansas City this Saturday, October 17, for a Western Conference rivalry match against the MLS Cup 2013 opponents. The game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. MT kickoff and will be streamed on Apple TV.
