Thanksgiving Point's gardens crew is planting thousands of Dutch tulip bulbs across Ashton Gardens in Lehi to prepare for the 2027 Tulip Festival, according to an October 6 blog post by Cloe Bentz.
The bulbs were sourced directly from Holland and are being placed in the ground this October to undergo a full winter underground before warming spring temperatures trigger growth and blooming.
The annual festival held at Ashton Gardens, located at 3900 N. Garden Drive, features more than 1 million flowers. Approximately 400,000 of these flowers are tulips, while the remainder includes poppies, daffodils, and hyacinths spread across 50 acres.
Thanksgiving Point describes the event as one of the largest spring flower festivals in the country and an eleven-year winner of the Best of State award.
For residents interested in planting their own, bulbs were available for purchase at Thanksgiving Point gift shops as of the October 6 blog post while supplies lasted.
The gardens team provided several planting tips, including planting bulbs 6 to 8 inches deep with the pointed end facing up. They recommended choosing a sunny spot with well-draining soil to avoid standing moisture that can rot bulbs, leaving a few inches of space between each bulb, and providing a thorough watering after planting to settle the soil.
Specific dates for the 2027 festival have not yet been announced, and Thanksgiving Point has not announced when tickets for the 2027 event will go on sale. The 2026 edition of the festival was held from April 8 through May 16.
