A paraglider who was rescued from Provo Canyon near Mount Timpanogos died from injuries following a crash, according to a confirmation from the Utah County Sheriff's Office on Monday.
The individual had previously called dispatch to report crashing into a narrow ravine located on the north side of Provo Canyon. Officials described the location of the crash as being very steep and high up on the mountains.
During the response, two helicopters were deployed to assist in the search, while a third helicopter was staged to transport the paraglider to a local hospital.
Once the paraglider was located, rescue teams performed what was described as a very technical rescue to move him off the mountain. However, the Utah County Sheriff's Office stated that despite the efforts of rescuers, the patient succumbed to the injuries sustained in the crash.
Investigators from the Utah County Sheriff's Office and personnel from the Utah Medical Examiner's Office responded to the scene to conduct further investigation.
Officials did not release the identity of the paraglider, stating that work was being done to notify next of kin.
