The Catholic Woman's League will hold its annual fall Tapestry luncheon and fashion show at a new location: St. Thomas More Parish’s Meyer Hall in Cottonwood Heights. This move follows the closure of the Salt Lake City Sheraton on April 30 for redevelopment, a venue that had previously served the organization.
CWL vice president and event chair Lisa Romero stated that the move to St. Thomas More was intended to manage economics and ensure the event remains accessible without raising ticket prices. By selecting a venue that allows more funds to go directly to beneficiaries, the organization aims to maximize its philanthropic impact.
This year, the luncheon will benefit two local nonprofit organizations through opportunity drawings. The awardees are St. Francis Xavier Catholic School in Kearns and Journey of Hope, Inc. in Sandy. Representatives from both organizations are scheduled to speak during the event.
St. Francis Xavier Catholic School serves a diverse population where most families fall below 200 percent of the federal poverty level. The school intends to use the proceeds to fund the implementation of Friendzy, a faith-based curriculum rooted in Scripture, covering costs for curriculum, training, and materials.
Journey of Hope, Inc., founded by Shannon Miller-Cox, Ph.D., will also receive funds. The non-profit provides trauma-informed care, case management, and advocacy for individuals affected by domestic violence, sexual abuse, human trafficking, homelessness, or involvement with the justice system. The organization stated that 100 percent of funds received would go toward providing direct services to clients.
The event will include a fashion show presented by Chico’s, featuring clothing modeled by CWL members and friends. Guests will also have the chance to bid on original artwork created by CWL members, customized baskets, and other items, with all bidding proceeds going to the beneficiaries.
Founded in 1916, the Catholic Woman's League is the oldest women’s organization in the diocese. Its mission includes working for the interests of Christ, promoting spirituality based on Catholic principles, advancing educational interests, and assisting in philanthropic efforts for community welfare.
