The Bear Lake volleyball team is gaining momentum heading into the postseason after a series of dominant performances, according to a October 5 report. The team has improved to a 20-5 overall record and 3-0 in district play following recent victories over American Falls and Snake River.
Bear Lake secured a decisive victory against American Falls on Wednesday, Sept. 30, winning the match in straight sets with scores of 25-7, 25-11, and 25-14. The team followed that performance on Thursday with a 3-0 sweep of Snake River, taking sets 25-18, 25-16, and 25-7.
Head coach Angie Hunter stated that the Snake River match was one of the team's best performances of the season. Hunter noted that the team is working to fine-tune skills and rotations to increase confidence and trust while striving to avoid complacency when holding a lead.
The Bears are also making a significant impact in the 4A Southeast Idaho Conference statistical rankings. Senior outside hitter Halle Wells leads the conference in kills with 290 and has a .276 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Avery Hunter ranks second in kills with 171 and third in hitting percentage at .219. Hunter also leads the conference with 33 aces and ranks second in digs with 229.
Other key contributors include freshman Hallie Hunter, who leads the conference with 341 assists, and junior Emma Topham, who ranks third with 200 assists.
Bear Lake has three regular-season matches remaining before the district tournament. The team is scheduled to travel to Preston on Wednesday, Oct. 7, followed by a game against American Falls on Thursday, Oct. 8. The regular season will conclude against Snake River on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
