Utah's vibrant dance scene is on display through a variety of performances ranging from classical and contemporary companies to infectious hip-hop groups. The upcoming festival programming includes various stages and diverse styles that showcase technical precision and storytelling through movement.
Local partner 1520 Arts will host energetic programming at The Round each evening, bringing together local dancers and artists to infuse hip-hop and street culture into performances. Scheduled events at The Round include the Trash Panda Drum Group on Thursday, June 18, and the Sol Tribe + Salt Open Styles Battle on Friday, June 19.
On Saturday, June 20, The Round will host the Red Bull Dance Your Style event, featuring a qualifying round at 6pm and finals at 8pm. The competition allows dancers to showcase freestyle and musicality skills across various street dance styles. On Sunday, June 21, the Rep Your Set Choreo Competition will take place, a collaboration between 1520 Arts and UVU's ESPRIT that features invited choreographers performing hip hop, contemporary, salsa, reggaeton, afro, popping, and heels.
Other scheduled performances include Sock Opera Dance by movement artist Constance Anderson on Friday, June 19, at The Round. Additionally, BANDALOOP will perform vertical dance pieces on the glass wall of the Main Library on June 18, 19, and 20.
Professional companies are also featured on the Festival Stage. Repertory Dance Theatre, currently celebrating its 60th anniversary season, will perform on Friday, June 19. Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, an established institution for contemporary dance, is scheduled to perform on Saturday, June 20.
The festival offers a wide range of dance experiences, from the street culture of 1520 Arts to the professional works of established contemporary institutions.
