Summit County Library has detailed a variety of programs and challenges designed specifically for teenagers. According to information posted to the library's website, these offerings include reading challenges, creative workshops, and community engagement opportunities.
The library provides several reading initiatives for youth. The Teen Summer Reading Challenge allows participants to earn tickets for prize drawings by completing up to 16 different activities. Participants can earn extra tickets by achieving a bingo or a blackout. Additionally, readers can earn 10 tickets for every 10 days spent reading materials such as books, comics, magazines, news, audiobooks, or eBooks. Another initiative, 100 Books Before Graduation, encourages students to read 100 books of their choice before high school graduation to earn digital badges and prizes.
Creative and social activities are also available at various branches. A Monster Taxidermy workshop, which provides all necessary supplies, is scheduled for Wednesday, September 2 at Coalville, Wednesday, September 9 at Kamas Valley, and Tuesday, September 15 at Kimball Jct. The library also hosts a Painting Workshop at Coalville led by local artist Amber Louder, featuring watercolor tutorials with supplies provided. Other scheduled activities include Teen Trivia in Coalville and a monthly Nintendo Switch gaming event at the Coalville Branch on the 4th Wednesday of every month.
Community engagement is further supported through the Teen Squad, which allows teens to share their ideas for library programming. Meetings for the Teen Lib Squad are held every 3rd Wednesday at 3:00 pm in Kamas Valley and on the last Tuesday of every month at 3:30 pm in Kimball Jct.
