The United Football League announced on Wednesday that four new markets will join the league over the next two years, according to a September 23 report.
The expansion will bring the total number of franchises in the spring football league to 10.
Rhode Island and Colorado are scheduled to join the league in 2027, replacing the folded Birmingham and Houston franchises. The Colorado franchise will play in Colorado Springs, while the Rhode Island franchise will be based in Pawtucket, R.I.
In 2028, the expansion will include Utah and Oklahoma. The Utah franchise is set to play at America First Field in Sandy, which serves as the home for Real Salt Lake and the Utah Royals.
Details regarding names and launch plans for the Utah and Oklahoma franchises will be announced closer to the 2028 season.
The 2027 UFL season will consist of eight teams: the Columbus Aviators, the Dallas Renegades, the DC Defenders, the Louisville Kings, the Orlando Storm, and the St. Louis Battlehawks.
In October 2025, the Michigan Panthers, Memphis Showboats, and San Antonio Brahmas folded.
