Isaiah Somers, a graduating film studies student at Weber State University, described his life as reaching an upward tick in a narrative shaped by wins and defeats. His path toward filmmaking was inspired by childhood memories of frequenting movie theaters with his family.
Athletic career and injuries
Originally from Chandler, Arizona, Somers joined the Weber State basketball team as a walk-on during the 2023–24 season before playing for Texas A&M International University in his senior year. His athletic career included training with NBA champions and competing against athletes in March Madness, but it also involved tearing both patellar tendons.
Academic achievements and campus roles
Following these injuries, Somers returned to Ogden to finish his degree. During his time at Weber State, he earned a film studies departmental scholarship and the Matthew Shepard Scholarship. He also served as the live event coordinator for Studio 76, the university's student-run production team.
Current script development and inspirations
Somers is currently developing two scripts: a comedy titled A Creator’s Process and a satire regarding modern-day ministry. His writing often incorporates his faith and draws inspiration from family members, including his parents, his wife Teresa Zavala, and his sister Jayla.

Future career goals and aspirations
Looking toward the future, Somers intends to seek opportunities at a production studio, specifically expressing interest in working with Utah faith-based filmmakers. He also remains open to basketball opportunities as he pursues his goal of reflecting his faith through his work.
