The I-84 and US-89 interchange project in Weber County has reached a significant milestone following the completion of an Environmental Assessment. The approved Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact mean the project can now proceed toward final design and construction of the Selected Alternative.
The project will move through several stages to transition from a study to a construction project. This process includes adding the project to the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), prioritizing it for funding, and then entering the final design and construction phases.
UDOT may construct the Selected Alternative in multiple phases depending on available funding. Potential phases include implementing a new single-point urban interchange at I-84 and US-89 and relocating and realigning the UPRR railroad bridges during Phase One.
Phase Two could include building new commuter bypass lanes from South Weber to South Ogden with a southbound flyover ramp at Harrison Boulevard, constructing shared-use paths with a Weber River crossing, and improving the Skyline Drive intersection. These phases could be combined or modified based on funding availability.
