The Military Installation Development Authority Board of Directors met on August 20, 2026, to address several regional development initiatives and organizational updates. According to a August 25 report, the board approved new development standards for the Utah National Guard Project Area and a donation to support the commissioning of the USS Utah (SSN-801).
During the meeting, the board unanimously approved Resolution 2026-18, adopting the Utah National Guard Project Area development standards and guidelines. Richard Catten explained that the project area, established in 2024, unites 27 Guard-controlled properties to modernize training facilities and utilities. Most properties are owned by the Utah State Armory Board, though certain portions of Camp Williams are federally owned, and some private properties exist in Tooele City.
The board also approved Resolution 2026-19, which authorizes the first amendment to an interlocal cooperation agreement with the North Davis Fire District. This amendment extends the agreement through June 30, 2036, expands the service area to the full Falcon Hill Enhanced Use Lease boundary, and updates the compensation structure to an annual base rate plus a per-call fee.
The board unanimously approved Resolution 2026-20, authorizing a $100,000 donation to the USS Utah Commissioning Committee, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Additionally, the board reviewed updates regarding the Mountain Veteran Program, which has recorded 5,535 program days to date, and the Military Recreation Facility, where guest room occupancy at the Grand Hyatt Deer Valley is pacing 222% ahead of last year for the August through December period.
In the Falcon Hill Project Area, the Hill Aerospace Museum Gateway expansion is moving forward to include a gift shop, a new gateway entry, and two offices. While Sunset Ridge Development Partners stepped back from the lead developer role for this final expansion, MIDA will act as the contract administrator. The Air Force's SABER program will serve as the construction manager for the project.
