BYU has emerged as the undisputed number one team in the Big 12 football power rankings following a 28-24 victory over Notre Dame on October 19. The win for Bear Bachmeier and his team provides the conference with a legitimate opportunity to secure multiple College Football Playoff spots, provided BYU remains successful.
Texas Tech holds the number two position in the rankings after a 53-25 win over Arizona State. The Red Raiders are scheduled to play at Cincinnati next week. Houston follows in third place after defeating Oklahoma State 32-25, and they are scheduled to play at Utah next week.
Oklahoma State is ranked fourth after a 35-32 loss to Houston, and they will face Colorado next week. Arizona sits at number five, while Utah is ranked sixth after a 27-24 win over Colorado on October 19. The Utes are scheduled to host Houston next week.
The remainder of the rankings include Kansas State at number seven, Iowa State at number eight, Baylor at number nine, and West Virginia at number ten. Cincinnati is ranked eleventh, UCF is twelfth, TCU is thirteenth, Arizona State is fourteenth, Kansas is fifteenth, and Colorado is sixteenth.
The Big 12 conference has faced challenges regarding public perception, but recent performances are shifting that narrative. For example, West Virginia recently defeated Cincinnati 45-42, and UCF recently gave up 464 passing yards to Michael Hawkins Jr.
Looking ahead to upcoming matchups, UCF will host BYU, and Arizona State will face Kansas State. Colorado is scheduled to play at Oklahoma State next week.
