San Juan County government agencies and Canyon Country businesses have partnered to encourage residents and visitors to follow safe practices to combat COVID-19 and other virally transmitted diseases. As part of the San Juan Strong Promise, three drive-thru distribution events will provide masks and other materials to local businesses free of charge.
The distributions are scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 26th, in Blanding on the north side of the Public Health Building from 11:00 AM to Noon. On Wednesday, May 27th, similar drive-thru distributions will occur in Bluff and Monticello between 11:00 AM and Noon.
The Bluff distribution will take place in the parking lot of the Bluff Community Center. In Monticello, businesses and organizations can pick up materials at the pavilion located behind the Stake Center/Post Office.
The campaign is being led by the San Juan County Health Department along with the San Juan County Office of Economic Development and Visitor Services. The mission is to demonstrate that participating businesses are doing everything possible to maintain safe conditions for employees and visitors while providing tools to prevent outbreaks from overwhelming local hospital facilities.
Kirk Benge, the San Juan Public Health Director, stated that working together to follow the principles of the promise will help maintain operations, keep doors open, and minimize the impacts of COVID-19.
The San Juan Strong Promise involves a two-fold commitment between businesses, community members, customers, and visitors. Businesses can obtain certifications by completing a guideline checklist and submitting a signed commitment to San Juan Public Health. These certifications, along with posters and tent cards, will be visible throughout the community.
Natalie Randall, Director of San Juan County Economic Development and Visitors Services, emphasized the importance of being proactive. She noted that the goal is to inform visitors that local businesses are open and going above and beyond to keep communities safe and healthy.
