The University of Utah prepared for the first home football game of the season against the Idaho Vandals at Rice-Eccles Stadium. According to a university notice, the event was scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 3, with officials anticipating heavy traffic and delays in the surrounding area.
The game was scheduled to run from 7 to 10 p.m., with stadium doors opening at 5 p.m. To manage the crowd, UTA TRAX planned to run normal schedules supplemented by seven to 10 additional trains for pre- and post-game traffic. High ridership and queuing lines were expected at campus stations between 5 and 11 p.m.
Parking and road impacts were scheduled to begin at various times. The West Stadium Parking Lot was set to face impacts starting at 6 a.m. on Sept. 3. Guardsman Way and the East Stadium Parking Lot were scheduled for closures starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2. Additionally, Guardsman Way was scheduled to close to through traffic at 4 p.m. on Sept. 3, with restrictions between 500 South and approximately 595 South. Through traffic on Guardsman Way was expected to reopen around 7:30 p.m.
Displaced campus permit holders were directed to Stillwell Field for additional parking between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Sept. 3. All impacted parking lots were scheduled to reopen for campus-related parking on Friday, Sept. 4.
Increased police personnel were assigned to manage intersections, major thoroughfares, and stadium perimeter zones to ensure community safety and transit movement. Local residents were advised to expect stadium activity sounds, including crowd noise, music, pyrotechnics, and cannon blasts, as well as bright stadium lighting and red illuminations.
