Real Salt Lake announced in a report published August 24 that it has extended rookie forward Sergi Solans through the 2029-30 MLS season. The extension includes a club option for the 2030-31 season, coming just six months into Solans' rookie season after his initial signing in January.
Solans has recorded 13 goals across all competitions this season, including nine in MLS, two in the Leagues Cup, and two in a Burnley friendly. He has set a new RSL rookie scoring record, surpassing Corey Baird's eight-goal total from the 2019 MLS Rookie of the Year season. Solans enters the upcoming Leagues Cup quarterfinal against Club León on Tuesday with an active four-game scoring run.
RSL Chief Soccer Officer Kurt Schmid stated that rewarding Solans was an easy decision because the player has proven his quality and commitment. Solans, a 22-year-old Girona FC academy product, made his RSL debut on February 21, 2026, against Vancouver. Before joining RSL, Solans played for Oregon State University and UCLA, earning various collegiate honors including Third-Team All-America and West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
Real Salt Lake is scheduled to face Liga MX's Club León in a Leagues Cup Quarterfinal on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. MT at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. The match will be broadcast on Apple TV.
