Ogden Fire has moved fire restriction status to Orange in designated hazardous areas throughout the city. The change follows critically dry conditions and an increase in wildfire danger.
According to officials, a single spark can quickly ignite dry vegetation, posing a threat to businesses, homes, natural areas, and public safety.
The Orange Fire Restrictions prohibit several activities within restricted areas. Prohibited items include all fireworks, open flames such as outdoor fireplaces and wood-burning fire pits, and any ignition source that is not located in a landscaped area, continuously attended, and equipped with a means of extinguishment.
Certain activities remain permitted under the new restrictions. These include gas fire pits and grills featuring flame-control features, as well as charcoal grills with lids using commercial charcoal. Smokers with lids and no ember exhaust that are powered by electricity, gas, or commercial pellets are also allowed.
The restrictions apply to specific high-risk areas identified on the city's posted map, including river corridors, canyons, trails, vacant lots, and the east bench.
Under Utah Code 53-7-225, Ogden cannot enact a complete ban on state-approved consumer fireworks during dates and times authorized by state law. While the city may prohibit fireworks in areas with hazardous environmental conditions, it is unable to prohibit them throughout the entire city during authorized discharge periods.
