The Utah State University Eastern Athletics department participated in 11 and community engagement events throughout Carbon and Emery counties during the 2025-26 academic year, according to a department announcement.
Student-athletes, coaches, and staff members engaged in various service projects, school activities, and community partnerships. These efforts included youth sports clinics, elementary school reading programs, city clean-up projects, and local parades.
Athletic Director Jess Brinkerhoff said community engagement is a core part of the department's identity. He noted that staff and athletes aim to show up and serve to strengthen the connection between the college and the local community.
The department's outreach also focused on youth mentorship. Athletes visited local elementary schools to participate in recess activities and mentor young students, while the Spirit Squad and the university mascot, Emmett the Eagle, attended numerous public events.
Spirit Squad Director Brandi Taylor-Johansen said that service provides athletes with opportunities to lead and connect with something larger than themselves. All athletic programs within the department contributed to the year's outreach efforts.
