San Juan School District schools will operate on a normal schedule on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2026, according to district updates, following a school closure at Bluff Elementary on Thursday, Sept. 17, due to inclement weather and potential flooding. Some students in the area continue to deal with flooding, mud, and impassable roads.
Weather-Related Closures
The closure at Bluff Elementary was implemented out of an abundance of caution, according to a notice issued by the school on Sept. 16, 2026. The school had previously closed its doors on Sept. 17, 2026, to mitigate risks associated with inclement weather and the threat of flooding.
Ongoing Travel Challenges
Despite the return to a normal schedule, the San Juan School District noted that several students may still be unable to travel safely to school. The district has stated that parents of students facing these travel difficulties should notify their school's building administrator.
For students unable to attend due to local conditions, the district will excuse these absences and provide opportunities to make up missed work.
