Salt Lake City is inviting the public to contribute to the city's winter sports history through a memory-sharing project. According to a notice on the city's website, residents can submit photos and stories from the 2002 Winter Games or recent Watch Party events to a public Memory Wall.
The project seeks to relive the magic of past winter sports competitions by collecting images and personal stories. The city is encouraging people to share moments from the 2002 Winter Games, including memories of Opening Night or specific landmarks like the City and County Building. Anonymous submissions are welcome through the city's online platform.
The initiative includes a phase specifically for sharing 2002 Winter Games memories. This phase was scheduled to run from February 5, 2026, through March 16, 2026. Participants can upload their contributions by using the submit a comment feature on the city's site.
The community effort is part of a larger interest in winter sports as the city looks toward future competitions. While celebrating the legacy of 2002, the project also aims to capture new moments as residents watch athletes compete on the world's biggest stage, building excitement for 2034.
The city also held a Watch Party event for Opening Night on February 6, 2026, which was scheduled from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM MST at 450 South 200 East.
