A massive redevelopment project featuring a 150,000 square foot Target store is moving forward at the site of Logan's former Cache Valley Mall. The plan for the North Main corridor follows the April 2024 demolition of the long-standing shopping center.
New Retail and Residential Plans
The proposed development at 1300 North Main Street aims to transform the area previously occupied by the Cache Valley Mall. According to records from Wikipedia, the redevelopment plans announced in 2023 include not only the Target retail space but also 346 multi-family residential units and a 156-room hotel.
This new construction follows the official closure of the mall on April 1, 2024. Demolition of the structure began later that same month and was expected to continue for several months.
History of Cache Valley Mall
The site has been a focal point of Logan commerce since the Cache Valley Mall first opened on July 29, 1976. The mall originally featured three anchor tenants: JCPenney, ZCMI, and Ernst-Malmo, which later became Ernst Home Center.
Over its nearly 48-year history, the mall saw numerous tenant changes, including the arrival of Bon Marche, Lamonts, Dillard's, Herberger's, and C-A-L Ranch. The mall's decline accelerated in recent years following the nationwide closure announcement by JCPenney in June 2020, which led to that store's permanent closure in October 2020.
Economic Development Focus
The redevelopment area is tied to the 1400 North Main Community Redevelopment Area (CRPA) managed by the City of Logan. This project area focuses on economic development within the specified corridor.
Future of North Main
While the original mall was owned by Namdar Realty Group prior to its closure, the new project introduces a significant shift toward mixed-use density in the North Main area of Logan.
