Utah schools and libraries are entering the summer season with a variety of reading challenges, language programs, and community events scheduled throughout June and July.
Saratoga Springs Library Summer Events
The Saratoga Springs Public Library announced its 2026 Summer Reading Challenge, featuring age-specific reading challenges and weekly activities including story times and music sessions. The library's program also includes a fifth annual rubber duck-orating contest in June and a short story contest in July focused on the history of the 'Couchness Monster.' Registration for the reading challenge began May 1.
Highland Elementary Reading Bingo Program
Highland Elementary has also launched a Summer Reading Challenge in conjunction with 'Mrs. Chadwick’s Summer Bingo.' Students are encouraged to share photos of themselves reading favorite books for a chance to be featured on the school marquee and to earn certificates and prizes during back-to-school night.
Duchesne County Librarian Award Recognition
In Duchesne County, Associate Librarian Amy Crockett received the Outreach Award from the Utah Library Association. According to BasinNow, Crockett manages three outreach programs, conducts weekly homeschool hours, and curates collections for junior and young adult patrons.
Language Programs and Community Safety
Educational programming continues in other districts as well. Waterford School's Upper School offers a world language program where students can study Chinese, French, or Spanish following a foundation in Latin during middle school. Meanwhile, the Vernal Police Department is promoting an FBI fraud presentation scheduled for June 15 at the Vernal City Conference Room to help community members, particularly older adults, detect increasingly sophisticated scams.
