Amy Dannehl has stepped into the role of head girls volleyball coach at Clearfield High School this year, tasked with addressing the program's culture and roster transitions. Dannehl succeeds Brooke Pehrson, who departed after five years and a 58-67 record.
The Falcons entered the season with a roster composed of five returning seniors and 10 freshmen. Dannehl noted that while the team possesses talent, the lack of consistent lineups prevented players from developing deep chemistry. The team finished with a 13-13 record and a 7-5 record in Region 5, resulting in an RPI ranking of approximately 20. Consequently, Clearfield will miss the 5A playoffs next week.
Individual achievements were highlighted during the season. Senior setter Ava Rasband surpassed 1,200 career assists, having reached her 1,000th assist earlier in the year. Senior libero Erin Lowry also reached the 1,000 career digs milestone during a match against Bonneville on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026.
Dannehl, a teacher at Legacy Junior High, described her coaching style as different from Pehrson's. She expressed a desire to change the mindset within Clearfield athletics, aiming to move away from a culture where the team is expected to lose toward one of competitiveness. The coaching staff includes assistant coaches Natalie Valentine and Kylee Reed.
Dannehl's background includes playing at Arkansas State on scholarship after attending high schools in Florida and Maryland. She has lived in Utah for 18 years and previously coached volleyball and track at Legacy Junior High.
