Rowland Hall junior Meg Hoglund has committed to play lacrosse for Howard University, an NCAA Division I school in Washington, D.C., beginning in the 2027–2028 academic year.
Hoglund, a Rowland Hall student, fulfilled an ambition she set four years ago to play lacrosse at the collegiate level.
Hoglund began playing lacrosse nearly a decade ago, noting that she fell in love with the sport during her first game at age 8. While she participated in basketball, soccer, dance, and gymnastics during her childhood, lacrosse became her primary focus by age 10.
To compete at a high level, Hoglund traveled across the valley to play for the Olympus and Brighton lacrosse clubs. Because Rowland Hall does not offer lacrosse, she utilized the Utah High School Activities Association co-op rule to play for Highland High, her school of residence.
After attending various showcases and tournaments, Hoglund visited the Howard University campus in late November. Following a video call with head coach Karen Healy-Silcott and assistant coach Abby Hampson on December 1, Hoglund verbally committed to the university on December 4.
Hoglund intends to study biology on a pre-med track at Howard University. She expressed appreciation for the Rowland Hall community for helping her balance academic excellence with high-level athletics.
Athletic Director Zack Alvidrez stated that Hoglund is a success story who reached her goals through hard work and passion, noting her ability to pursue rigorous academic standards while competing in lacrosse.
