Strata Networks members gathered on June 4th for the cooperative's Annual Meeting to celebrate 75 years of serving communities throughout the Uintah Basin. The meeting provided updates regarding the organization's financial performance, strategic initiatives, and future direction.
Customer appreciation event details
The evening began with a customer appreciation event featuring a barbecue dinner and custom Strata-themed drinks. This event allowed members to connect with employees and neighbors while recognizing those who have supported the cooperative throughout its history.
Board of Directors election results
During the business meeting, several election results for the Board of Directors were announced. Kelly Dastrup was elected to another term representing the Vernal District after running unopposed. JoAnn Winn was re-appointed to serve the Randlett District, and Melissa Hughes was elected to represent the Tabiona District, winning over incumbent Max Fabrizio.
Financial performance and revenue updates
Secretary/Treasurer Dana Shepard reported that the cooperative maintained a strong financial position, generating more than $115 million in revenue in 2025. Shepard noted that approximately one third of that revenue originated from outside the Basin and highlighted that diversified revenue streams have allowed Strata to increase internet speeds without raising customer rates for over two decades. Chief Financial Officer Jason McKee provided further insight into the cooperative's financial performance.
Technological evolution and infrastructure investment
Board President Kelly Dastrup reflected on how technology has changed over the company's history, while Chief Operations Officer Dave Ryan stated that the company continues to invest millions of dollars in the Uintal Basin to expand and upgrade service to remote locations.
Strategic growth and subsidiary development
The meeting also addressed growth and technological advancements. Vice President of Business Development Tyler Rasmussen discussed pursuing strategic growth through new partnerships and expansion initiatives to reduce reliance on member-generated revenue alone. Additionally, Attorney Beau Hancock and Kirk Bostick, Vice President of Operations of Spectra, provided updates on the development of the Strata subsidiary.
Workforce size and artificial intelligence
Regarding the workforce, Vice President of Human Resources Meagin Mohar shared that Strata and its subsidiaries employ nearly 350 people. From a technical perspective, Vice President of Technology Brent Simmons discussed the incorporation of artificial intelligence to improve operational efficiency and customer experiences.
The meeting concluded with remarks on advocacy and community commitment. Manager Todd reported that Strata remains an advocate for rural broadband through engagement with national associations. CEO/General Manager Bruce Todd stated that the most important goal is providing rural communities with what they need and want, particularly for developing technologies and the rising generation.
