Derek L Kitchen is a Democratic politician from Salt Lake City, Utah, who announced a candidacy for U.S. House District 1 in the 2026 election but later withdrew. He previously served on the Salt Lake City Council from 2016 to 2019 and as a Utah State Senator representing District 2 from 2019 to 2022. Kitchen is known for being a plaintiff in the 2013 Kitchen v. Herbert case that helped legalize same-sex marriage in Utah, and he later served as Senior Vice President of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Export-Import Bank.
