Jason Craig Nelson

Jason Craig Nelson (also known as Jason C. Nelson) is a Utah Second District Court judge appointed by Governor Spencer Cox in January 2023 to fill the vacancy left by Judge David Connors’ retirement, subject to Senate confirmation. He earned a B.A. in history from Brigham Young University in 2002 and a J.D. from BYU’s J. Reuben Clark Law School in 2007, then served as a Second District judicial law clerk (2007–2008) before working as a deputy Davis County attorney from 2008 to 2023, including as primary domestic violence prosecutor (2009–2018) and General Felonies Division chief (2019–2023). He has also prosecuted for West Bountiful and North Salt Lake, clerked in the Utah Attorney General’s Criminal Justice Division, coached West Point recreation sports, and served on the West Point Planning Commission; he appears on the 2026 ballot for nonpartisan retention as judge of the Second Judicial District.
