Jim Atkinson
About
Jim Atkinson is a Republican candidate for Utah State House District 5, challenging incumbent Rep. Casey Snider. He is a self-employed heating and air conditioning contractor who resides in Avon, Utah, with his wife of 25 years; they have nine children. Atkinson has long participated in the Utah GOP caucus system as a state and county delegate, precinct vice chair, and member of the state Republican Central Committee, and has served on local boards including the Avon Cemetery Board and Cache County RAPZ and Restaurant Tax Board.

Taxes and Spending
Decrease Utah's tax burden, which he describes as the highest of any Republican state; reduce government spending and eliminate pet projects; support transparency in tax fund expenditures.
Local Control
Control zoning laws locally rather than by the state; prioritize community goals in planning over state objectives.
Education
Repeal the Common Core program and increase parental choice in education.
Government and Ethics
Return state government to Founding Fathers' intent by limiting overreach; establish transparency and honesty in voting rolls and procedures; create term limits on state offices; reverse SB 54 and return to the caucus system; oppose pay-to-play politics and public-private partnerships.

Keep public lands public and back roads open; free up Utah's natural resources; return control of public lands to the state; support water rights for farmers and individuals; reverse draconian secondary water legislation; secure Utah's power grid against EMP attacks.
