John David Luthy

John David Luthy is a judge of the Utah Court of Appeals, appointed by Gov. Spencer J. Cox in October 2022 and facing a nonpartisan retention election on November 3, 2026. Before joining the court he served as Cache County Attorney and earlier as chief civil deputy county attorney, and he previously practiced at firms in Logan and Salt Lake City and taught legal writing at the University of South Carolina School of Law. He graduated from Utah State University in political science and earned a law degree from Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School, and he clerked for judges on the Utah Court of Appeals and the Utah Supreme Court.
