Michael Farrell is a Salt Lake City tax attorney and first-time candidate who ran as a progressive Democrat in the 2026 Democratic primary for Utah's 1st Congressional District. He secured a spot on the primary ballot by gathering over 7,000 signatures and positioned himself as a self-described progressive aligned with figures like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Farrell, originally from California with degrees from UCLA and the University of Michigan Law School, lost the June 23, 2026 primary to Ben McAdams.
